Australia wins the 2003 Cricket World Cup!
Ricky ponting and his team came out tops after beating India at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

ICC President Malcolm Gray spoke at the presentation ceremony on 23rd March 2003.

Shaun Pollock's reign as captain has ended, after it begun in 2000.
The 22 year old, Graeme Smith, has taken over his position as the new South African captain.

Jason Gillespie returns home
Australian fast bowler, Jason Gillespie returned home on the 5th March 2003, after diagnosis of a right heel strain.
He is expected to be out of action for 4-6 weeks.
New South Wales Nathan Bracken is going to be replacing Gillespie.
South Africa is out of the ICC Cricket World Cup
South Africa experienced a heart breaking fate on Monday ,3rd March. They narrowly lost to Sri Lanka, after rain stopped play at Kingsmead, Durban. They were one run away from what they needed once the rain came down.
Allan Donald Quits International cricket
South Africa's fast bowler Allan Donald has now retired from playing International Cricket, a few days after being left out of the South Africa vs Sri Lanka match in Durban.
Shane Warne out of the Cricket World Cup - and banned from Cricket...
One of Australia's best leg spinners has been taken out of the Cricket World Cup, due to failing a drugs test.
Shane returned home to Melbourne, Australia after taking a banned Diuretic.
He has now been found guilty for taking the Diuretic, and had been banned from cricket for 12 months.
Rhodes out on injury
Jonty Rhodes, one of South Africa's best fielders, is out of the Cricket World Cup because of Injury.
Rhodes broke his hand whilst playing in the South Africa vs Kenya match on Wednesday, 12th February.
He was planning to retire after the Cricket World Cup. Rhodes will not be eligible to rejoin the squad.

India Beat Zimbabwe by 83 runs. Thus keeping them in the game for a place in the Super Six stage of the Cricket World Cup.
South Africa so far
In the Cricket World Cup's opening match, South Africa lost to West indies with a close 3 run difference.
Brian Lara scored 116 runs, whilst South Africa's Lance Klusener scored 57.
South Africa beat Kenya by 10 wickets at their match on Wednesday 12th February.
South Africa lost to New Zealand by 9 wickets after scoring 306 runs on Sunday, 16th February.
South Africa beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets on Sunday, 22nd February. Kirsten scored 52 runs and
Gibbs scored 49 runs.
South Africa lost to Sri Lanka, after rain stopped play, on Monday 3rd March, 2003.
Opening Ceremony drew 22 000
A spectacular display opened the ICC Cricket World Cup in Cape Town, on Saturday 8th February 2003.
The Ceremony included African warriors, township life, and an array of african wildlife including zebras, giraffes and antelopes. The Ceremony drew a spectator crowd of 22 000 people at Newlands Cricket Stadium.

What you cannot bring to the games
Portable braais(barbecues), beach umbrellas, deck chairs, hard cooler boxes, and all types of beverages. Free water, braais and umbrellas will be available at all the grounds and food and drink will be on sale.
